Why good organizations still lose evidence in investigation reporting

A boda boda rider in Kampala once told me, “The fastest route is the one no one questions.” He then veered off the tarmac into a narrow path between unfinished buildings. For five minutes, it felt like genius. We bypassed traffic, overtook cars, and I almost congratulated him.

Then the path ended in a trench without any warning. Just a hard stop, we turned back, slower than we started, now with dust on our faces and time already lost. If you use Google maps for directions in the village, you have an idea.

That is exactly how good organizations lose evidence. They optimize for speed, not integrity. They design investigation processes that look efficient on paper but collapse when tested under scrutiny.

They move fast through internal reviews, skip documentation discipline, and assume that “we know what happened” is enough. It is not.

Evidence does not disappear because people are careless. It disappears because systems are designed to prioritize closure over truth. READ MORE

You want speed with impact, and not mere activity. Most executive teams I meet are busy, aligned in meetings, but fragmented in outcomes. So I help them gain clarity and focus using a structured instrument that exposes truth quickly and without politics.

The Execution PrecisionTool helps do that. It is not a reporting template but a decision discipline. This template is an extract of the mela GRC tool that helps you gain clarity of your strategy execution.Use it weekly at EXCO and monthly at Board (live updates) or quarterly for discussion in respect to strategic priorities. If the table is weak, your execution is weak. With this tool, you get maximum respect from your stakeholders.  READ MORE

He paused and the room went quiet. No one had an answer. I later got to learn that the company did not have a strategy. It had ambition dressed as paperwork.

A good strategy is not a plan. It is a set of hard choices that create advantage. Most leaders get this wrong. They treat strategy as expansion, growth, and opportunity.

Real strategy is exclusion, focus, and sacrifice. If you are not uncomfortable with what you are giving up, you have not made strategic choices.

The core of a good strategy. READ MORE
